Some models can be used with smart devices. They let you monitor your fridge remotely and troubleshoot any problems that might arise. You can also control them via voice commands.
Noise
Best Fridges make a wide range of sounds when they're operating. Certain noises are more obvious than others. Before contacting a refrigerator repair service, you should determine the source of any sounds you hear.
Rattling
Fridge rattling can occur when there's not enough space between the fridge and wall or cabinet, or when it's positioned at an unbalanced angle. It's easy to repair. It's just a matter of ensure that there's at least a couple of inches between the fridge and the wall or cabinet, or you can adjust the leveling screws or legs to increase or decrease the height of your fridge.
Hissing
The compressor could make a loud noise while cooling your food. This is a typical sound that is caused by compressor fluid or refrigerant moving through the system. If you're worried, count how often the compressor runs and call a fridge repair service immediately if it does so more frequently than usual.
Squeaking
Refrigerators can sound raucous when the fan or coils are filthy. If you notice your fridge making noises clean the coils or fan using a vacuum using a brush attachment or a rag and water, or just use dish soap and water. This should be done at least twice every year or more often when your refrigerator is old or heavily used.
Clicking
Frigs may also make click sounds that is usually caused by ice accumulation around the freezer fan. This issue can be fixed with a manual defrost, but it is likely to recur unless the issue is addressed by a service professional.
It can also happen when the fridge is turned off, so make sure to restart it when you hear this. This sound could also be caused by an ice maker if you have one attached to the fridge, so it's crucial to ensure that it's turned off when you don't need ice continuously.
The hum of your refrigerator is normal, but it may be more pronounced at certain times of the day, or after large stockings or intensive freezing processes. The refrigerator is working harder to keep your food cool, and therefore it has to work faster. This isn't an indication of a problem.
Dust
Dust in the house attracts dirt, bacteria, and other microorganisms as well as traces from the everyday exposure to chemicals in our homes. The tiny particles can be inhaled and trigger allergic reactions and serve as an ideal surface for microbes to colonize and, in some cases, cause infections when they come into contact with an open wound.
It's impossible to clean a fridge entirely but regular cleaning can reduce the accumulation of dust and keep the temperature more constant. A dirty fridge also consumes energy as it overheats and is inefficient. If your refrigerator is making more noise than usual or If you suspect that it is running out of energy due to overworking it could be time to have it checked.
Unlike other airborne particulates, dust doesn't just come in from the outside as is often believed. It contains resuspended soil from your home and is often contaminated with lead and other toxicants as well as pollen, mold spores, and car exhaust. It also contains legacy pollutants like DDT which was banned more than 50 years ago.
Some compounds, like flame retardants, such as decabromodiphenylether, are able to be dissolved into the air. But the majority of chemicals in dust come from objects that are thrown off, for example, electronic equipment. High-molecular-weight substances, such as surfactants used in cleaners and paint strippers, also migrate directly into dust.
In addition to contaminating food items in the refrigerator, a smoky fridge can also negatively affect your health. It can harbor allergens, like pet dander and the droppings of cockroaches which can trigger asthma and allergic reactions for many people. It may also contain bacteria spores, such as staphylococcus.
Researchers have discovered that a variety of health issues are linked to contaminated dust, from heart disease to cancer to leukemia and inflammatory intestinal disease. A recent study showed that the homes of children who were diagnosed with leukemia tended to have higher levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons PDEs and PCBs in their dust than homes of healthy kids.
Condenser Coils
If refrigerators function correctly, the coils on the back and front of the appliance should help disperse the heat generated by the compressor. When these radiator-like components are covered with dust, pet hair or lint, the compressor has to work hard trying to cool the refrigerator, which wears down the appliance. That's why it's important to clean the coils regularly.
Before you begin, unplug and turn off the refrigerator's power source. This will lower the chance that you or your family members could be struck by electricity while working on the appliance. It's also a good idea to wear a protective mask if you are sensitive to dust. You will then need to locate the coils. The coils are typically located at the back of the refrigerator, or in some instances, at the front and base. Refer to the manual for your fridge or contact the manufacturer if aren't sure where they are.
After you've found the coils, take down the access panel (if there's one) and alternate between vacuuming them with the narrow hose attachment or brushing them with a condenser cleaning brush. Be careful not to risk damaging or twisting the coils. After you're done, replace the kick panel or push the fridge into position and plug it back into.
If you're not comfortable doing this by yourself, you could always seek out an expert. However, it's a lot cheaper and less trouble to just keep up with the cleaning routine to stop the problem from arising in the first place.
Maintenance
Fridges are powerful appliances that run all day to cool down your food. To help them do their job effectively, they need regular maintenance. This simple preventive maintenance will keep them running smoothly for years to come.
A simple task is to wipe down the door seals. The gaskets can become blocked by jelly and other food items that stick which allows air to escape through tiny openings. Clean them off by putting baking soda and warm water on a sponge or toothbrush every couple of months.
Another spot to look for issues is the fan in the back of the fridge. It may be noisy if it's clogged with paper, insulation or even mice. Unplug the refrigerator and take it off all the shelves and take out any parts that are removable. Clean the coils and the space around them with an air cleaner and an attachment for a hose. Make sure to switch off the fridge after you have finished.
It is recommended to consult the owner's manual to find out more on where to find the fan and coils and what cleaning tools you'll need. You should also read the warranty to make sure you understand what's covered.
